Who is Paul Williams? Musician, Guitarist, Singer, Composer, Teacher
Paul Alexander Williams was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, and received his first guitar from community activist, Chester “Buddy” George and then taught himself to play the instrument at fifteen. At nineteen, Paul worked in bars and nightclubs, and received instruction and encouragement from local musicians. Early mentors included local guitarists Tom “TC” Brown and Jimmy McCann.
Four years later, Paul played guitar in the nine-piece show band “Pain & Pure Pleasure” and apprenticed in “Brotherhood”, a jazz quartet featuring Richard Lee, a mentor of guitarist, George Benson.
In 1995, he formed “The Sweet P Blues Band”, playing in Providence and throughout New England. He also works as the Music Coordinator at the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative and is a board member of the Rhode Island Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society.
Paul Alexander Williams is a master of many music styles, so you won’t want to miss him playing the blues at The Blue Room in Pawtuxet Village.
