Newport Jazz presents: Jam Sessions @ The Blue Room
This is a space for all musicians to come together and perform in an inclusive, multigenerational setting. The jam sessions will feature a house band and curated jazz repertoire. Hosted by Leland Baker, Music Education Manager for the Newport Festivals Foundation.
Each session will be themed to focus on the music and legacy of a jazz artist; musicians are encouraged to play a tune written by that artist. A different jazz artist will be announced a week ahead of time to give musicians time to learn and explore that artist’s music.
Jazz artist theme for Wed. Dec. 27: Kenny Burrell (born July 31, 1931) Burrell is an American jazz guitarist known for playing “straight-ahead” jazz guitar grounded in bebop and blues, he toured with many of the greatest jazz artists, played at Newport Jazz Festival several times and became Founder and Director of the Jazz Studies Program at UCLA.
