The whole story:
Singer & songwriter Dave Englund called his longtime friend, bassist & songwriter Steve Wolfe on April of 2021 and asked if he’d be interested in starting an Americana band, leaving the loud guitars in the rearview and opting for a more vocal-driven, vintage thumping sound, Steve agreed. After running a series of specific ads on Craigslist, tailored to each player’s position, the phone calls came in. Drummer, percussionist & vocalist Mark Vadnais showed up on May 24th and immediately the snaky soulful grooves started happening, Mark was now part of the team. 5 months later on November 3rd, an old acquaintance of Dave & Steve’s, violinist & mandolin player Ernie Lau stopped by for a jam to see if he’d be a good fit, his focus on classical violin, as opposed to bluegrass fiddling, brought a new and much needed color to this new group, he joined that week. On November 30th, pedal steel guitarist Jim Wishart showed up and played 3 songs with just Dave and Steve, more magic had entered the room. Jim’s musicality and playing coated every song he played on. On April 8th we saw the last of the line-up being completed as Chris Charyk joined as electric guitarist and keyboard player, In Lieu of Flowers was now complete!
