HUGO, FELIPE and DELEON

Sat January 27 2024 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Hugo, Felipe, Carlos

Hugo Gonzalez Koppmann with Carlos de Leon & Felipe Rosario
Saturday Jan 27, 2024  from  5 – 8 pm

Don’t miss singer Hugo Gonzalez joined by his fellow “travadores” (troubadours) Felipe and Carlos DeLeon for the best acoustic Latin folk music. We’ve enjoyed hearing Felipe and Carlos Deleon at The Blue Room previously, but it’s a first to have Hugo join them here.

Listening to Hugo Gonzalez is like getting closer to the Latin American Magical Realism in its form of song. It is to travel through some of the history of this southern continent through its songs and poetry, which for generations have captured the struggle and hope, the pain and the joy, the love and deception of its people and its landscape.

Hugo’s repertoire includes songs that cover the last 70 or 80 years of that America that breaths south of the Rio grande: boleros, tangos, Rancheras, the Social song of South America – full of life and poetry – La Nueva Trova, Serrat, Cabral, and many others from Latin America and Spain will always be present whatever this troubadour goes. He brings back all songs for new times: magnificent treasures from the inexhaustible well of the Amerindian culture.

Hugo was born in Talca, Chile, and grew up surrounded by songs in a family of poets. He was ordained Roman Catholic priest in 1984, at the height of Pinochet’s dictatorship. While in the US, he worked as a psychotherapist and social worker for more than 20 years, and is now retired and living in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
